Why Install a Temporary Tower?

Speed, cost, and flexibility give temporary towers several advantages over other solutions:

Temporary towers provide coverage until land is zoned, and permits are obtained, for a permanent wireless structure. With no excavation required, temporary towers can be installed in places where the ground cannot be disturbed due to contamination; on Indian tribal land; or pending Federal or State environmental review (e.g. under NEPA or by New York’s SHPO). Temporary towers can generally be built in less than two days, at a lower cost of construction, and offer an immediate revenue stream. SQUAN leases temporary towers for the short and long term, providing operational and financial flexibility. When required, temporary towers can be moved and reinstalled at new locations. Advantages over a Cell on Wheels system include the ability to serve multiple carriers, no guy wires, design for higher wind speeds, security fencing, and increased antenna loading.

Uses of Temporary Towers

Temporary towers are useful wherever wireless is needed quickly and inexpensively, but have particular value in a number of situations:

  • New Communities or Developments: temporary coverage can be put in place for new developments before zoning and permitting allow permanent wireless coverage.
  • Emergency and Disaster Coverage: where permanent infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed in a natural disaster, or ground has been contaminated, temporary towers can restore service quickly to affected communities.
  • Event Coverage: because of their mobility and speed of installation, temporary towers can provide coverage for major events in remote areas.
